Feeling off-balance? 3 ways to re-align to get back into the flow
Having a bad day? Stressed out? Feeling stuck or just...."off"? Here are 3 quick and easy ways to put the breaks on those lower vibrations and make a big U-turn towards higher vibration - where flow and alignment can be found. If you're able to recognize when you're feeling a bit off-balance, you can then take the steps to set you in the opposite direction.
Did you know that most people actually tend to hold their breath or take very shallow breaths throughout the day? If you bring your own attention to your breath, do you notice that you are barely breathing? Yikes, right?! The breath is the life force of the body. Yoga teaches the importance of the breath through Pranayama breathing, or the "control of breath" through deep breathing exercises. This allows you to consciously and deeply inhale and exhale so that the life force moves throughout your entire body. When you breathe deeply, the oxygen and life force is able to reach every inch, fibre and cell of your body - extending that life force to the ecosystem you harbor in your body. When you consciously and deeply inhale, you are bringing attention to the present moment. When you consciously and deeply exhale, you are releasing anything that does not serve you.
Try it: Sit or stand in a comfortable upright position. Deeply inhale with the slow count of 5, expanding first your belly and then your lungs. Hold the breath at the top for a count of 5, and then slowly exhale with the slow count of 6 or until all the air is out of your body. Repeat at least 2 more times.
2. Spend time in nature
Spending time in nature seems to be the cure for most things, but it really is! Nature brings your attention back to the present moment, which is where your alignment and flow are. Mindfulness is a big component if one is seeking alignment and flow, and nature is guaranteed to bring you back to mindfulness. Spending time in nature also tends to bring one's attention inward - towards their own mortality and existence, and allows the stress of the day to disappear. Plus, the fresh air really helps with getting in more, deeper (and clean) breath!
Reflect: "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." - Lao Tzu
Sometimes when you're stuck in a rut, stressed, or angry, the best thing would be to step away from the situation. Even better, would be to really find someway you can fully, deeply belly-laugh. Easier said than done if you're angry or sad, but if you can somehow manage to do it, it quickly stops the lower frequency energy from trailing off and automatically switches gears into a higher frequency. At this moment, you are consciously choosing to bring your energy back into alignment, rather than allowing it to run off the deep end. Hang out with your funnest (or funniest) friend, rent a comedy, or watch a hilarious comedian - laughing it out always makes you feel better and raises your vibration to put you more in "flow".
Try it: Even if you're having a bad day, take time to look at yourself in the mirror. When you do, give yourself a huge smile. And if that's painful? Look at what you're doing and find a way to laugh at yourself at the silliness of the situation.
